Annual Christmas Banquet

December 20, 2011-Waterfront Rescue Mission reminisces about the past and is excited for the future as they prepare for the last Christmas banquet at their current facility in Pensacola. The Mission began serving the poor and homeless in 1949 and after more than 60 years they are relocating in June 2012 where they will be able to meet the growing needs.

"While it may be a little sad to think about this being our last Christmas at the downtown Pensacola location, we know that it is time to have a facility that can better serve the community and allow for more rescue and recovery to take place" said Mick Breault, Waterfront Rescue Mission President.

This year's Christmas Banquet will be special as guests, staff, and volunteers recall all of the wonderful memories and good that has been accomplished at the Mission. "It is always moving to see the men squeeze into that little building to be fed and to hear the word of God," said Clarence Simmons, long-time Mission volunteer. Simmons has been helping feed at the Mission for years and cannot wait for the move, "moving from a very small kitchen and seating area, we are looking forward to something bigger to accommodate the needs of the men."

The staff and volunteers at all three Mission locations are gearing up to make this Christmas a memorable one. In Pensacola, the holiday meal will be served beginning at 11:00am until 1:00pm for anyone in need. In Mobile, a brief service with Christmas carols will begin at 11:00am and the meal to be served at 12:00pm. In Ft. Walton Beach, there will be a brief program from 11:00am - 11:45am with meal service from 11:45am - 1:30pm.

While all of the volunteer positions have been filled, the community is encouraged to participate by sponsoring a meal for just $2.23. You can click here for more details. Merry Christmas!
