Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week! Nov. 14-20

National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week in Escambia and Santa Rosa County

November 14-20, 2010

November 8, 2010 -Each year the Waterfront Rescue Mission joins with the EscaRosa Coalition on the Homeless to take part in National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (NHHAW). A full week of activities has been planned during Nov. 14-20 to focus on creating increased awareness of the plights of so many in our community who are struggling with homelessness.

It is hoped that these special events will lead to an increased understanding of how and why individuals and families become homeless, and spark innovative solutions to the problems facing the homeless and poor in our community at the same time. Your participation each day this week will help!

This year, several local counties and cities have officially recognized National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, including Escambia County, Santa Rosa County, the city of Pensacola and the city of Milton.

Some of the scheduled events include a Candlelight Vigil honoring homeless individuals who passed away this year, a food and clothing item drive that will last the entire week and a Gallery Night event featuring art created by local homeless individuals. See below for a full schedule of events during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
