Career Development Program
is a discipleship program for men who successfully complete
their 12-week course at New Hope Home. The men who qualify
for CDP have demonstrated their commitment to learning and
practicing an authentic faith-walk.
Waterfront Rescue Mission initiated the Career Development
Program in 1992 to provide men the opportunity to develop
new life habits and employment skills as they transitioned
back into the world. Residency for CDP clients began in a
few small houses. The program grew to include the facilities
on Olive Rd. in northeast Pensacola in the fall of 1998. Residential
space for 24 clients expanded with the addition of three nearby
houses to accommodate 35+ men.
CDP is primarily a discipleship program for men who were formerly
homeless, alcoholic and drug-addicted, and hopelessly drifting.
CDP provides a 7 to 24 month supervised program for men to seek
God whole-heartedly and learn to walk in the fullness of Christ.
Clients practice the new-creation lifestyle as they prepare for
productive lives in the local church, community and employment situations.
Clients make and practice their commitments to their local church,
mentors, employers and safe friends.
Secondary benefits of the CDP discipleship program include schooling
at George Stone Career Center or Pensacola Junior College for those
who qualify. Clients who enter the work track establish solid employment
situations and practice money management with their earnings. Some
of the work-track clients choose the truck driving school to earn
their CDL.
The expectation for CDP clients is to see increasing self-discipline
and responsibility, combined with increasing privileges and freedoms.
The successful graduate will continue to grow and mature as a godly
man and role model for family and friends. |
