There is power in numbers, especially when it comes to collecting donations for the essential needs of the homeless. There are many creative ways your office, church, or school can provide food and other necessities for the hurting and homeless. Here are some examples:
Theme Food Drives:
A theme meal is a fun way to directly touch those in need. Think Italian and collect pasta and tomato sauce in bulk. With the food you collect, a great Italian meal can be served at one of our shelters. Feel free to choose a creative theme and provide the ingredients for a simple recipe to be prepared by the the Waterfront Rescue Mission staff and volunteers.
Bring these items to your local Waterfront Rescue Mission and know that you have helped those who struggle to fulfill this very basic need for nourishment.
Cleaning Product Drives:
Help us keep the Missions in tip-top shape. Ask your group to donate disinfectant, glass cleaner, bathroom cleaner, laundry detergent, sponges, towels, and the list goes on.
Toiletry Tote Drives:
Good hygiene improves self-esteem, which helps to give hope to someone who has been living on the streets. You can contribute by putting together toiletry totes for men and women in need. The bags can be filled with either full-size or travel-size toiletries.
Here are some item ideas to fill your resealable plastic bags: shampoo, soap, deodorant, disposable razors, toothpaste, toothbrush, and lotion.
Healthy Snack Drives:
Every day the Mission provides snack breaks for those staying at the shelters. Instead of serving cookies or cakes, your group could help us provide healthy snacks for our guests. Great snack ideas include: granola bars, raisins, trail mix, dried fruit, and other healthy treats.
