Kate: Addicted to Jesus
My dad died when I was six years old and my mom was an alcoholic. My brother died from an overdose and my sister has battled addiction. When I was 20 years old I was arrested and went to jail for drug use. When I got out I met a wonderful Christian man and we were married.
We moved to his home in New Zealand and we had a son, attended church and enjoyed success. Then, my mother died.
I went to California for the funeral, met some old friends and relapsed. I went back to New Zealand but because of my addiction I lost everything. My husband sent me back to California where my drug use got worse and worse.
I went on a trip to Florida with some of my drug using friends but I became so obnoxious to them that the left me in Pensacola. Now I found myself on the street in a strange city, sick and alone.
A local told me about the Waterfront Rescue Mission’s Women’s Shelter so I called them. They didn’t have any room in their recovery program but they said that I could sleep on a cot until a bed became available. When I walked through the door the counselors were like angels from heaven, the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen.
I love my husband and my son, and I hope our marriage can be restored. But, now there is someone new in my life, Jesus Christ. He loves me just the way I am, even with all of the terrible things I’ve done. And, I love Him with all my heart.
